While the new screenshot feature does the required job, it is only limited to the screenshot taken within the Google App and the custom Google Chrome tabs that open within the Google App. In cases of custom Android skins, the Google App screenshot feature does not work.

Google has rolled out a new feature that will only increase the productivity of its Android app but also take on its iOS counterpart. Google App for Android has received the screenshot feature that will allow the users to take a screengrab of the screen, edit it, and share with others. The feature is currently available in the beta version 7.21 of the Google App. In addition, Google has also provided a dedicated setting to control the screenshot feature in the app.

The Mountain View-based giant began testing this feature last year in April, reports 9to5Google. The feature has now started rolling out to users, however, only to the beta testers while a broader rollout is expected in coming days. The screenshot feature is essentially similar to the ones seen on custom Android skins, which stock Android has been lacking so far.

In order to use the feature, the users who are currently enrolled in the beta programme for Google App for Android, will see a new setting under the Accounts & Privacy menu called Edit and share screenshots. Once you enable it, every time a screenshot is taken on your phone will be followed by a popup from the bottom asking you to either edit or share the screenshot. Tapping on Edit will present you three options – crop, draw, and finished – that you can use to crop and doodle on the screenshot image before finally tapping on finished that shows the sharing options available within the apps installed on your phone. You can alternatively tap on Share to directly share the screenshot image across apps.

While the new screenshot feature does the required job, it is only limited to the screenshot taken within the Google App and the custom Google Chrome tabs that open within the Google App. In cases of custom Android skins, the Google App screenshot feature does not work. However, this should not be a problem as most of the custom operating systems come preloaded with a bunch of additional features for screenshots. This comes as a relief to the stock Android users who have to rely on other third party screenshot taking apps to enjoy editing and sharing features.

Google last week shocked the Internet users after it removed the facility to download images from its search engine. This came as a result after Google joined hands with Gettyimages to ensure there’s no copyright violation with respect to the images that download from the Web in humongous amounts.
